SJ Eagles Basketball League – Code of Conduct
The SJ Eagles Basketball League (SJEBL) is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all participants. This Code of Conduct outlines the expected behavior for parents/guardians/spectators, players, coaches, technical officials, and administrators involved in the league.
Parents and guardians play a critical role in the development of young athletes. As such, SJEBL expects the following from all parents:
1.1 Encourage fair play and good sportsmanship.
1.2 Support all players, coaches, and officials, regardless of the outcome.
1.3 Refrain from shouting instructions from the sidelines or interfering with technical official decisions and calls.
1.4 Address concerns respectfully and through the appropriate team channels.
1.5 Never engage in abusive, threatening, or discriminatory behavior.
1.6 Promote a positive environment that prioritizes fun, learning, and growth.
1.7 Parents, guardians, and spectators are not to enter the following zones during play:
1.7.1 The court before, during, or after matches
1.7.2 The space of table officials and administrators
All players are representatives of the SJ Eagles Basketball League and must demonstrate:
2.1 Respect towards coaches, referees, teammates, opponents, and supporters.
2.2 A commitment to play by the rules and accept decisions made by officials.
2.3 Self-control: No taunting, swearing, fighting, or unsportsmanlike conduct.
2.4 Responsibility for their own behavior, both on and off the court.
2.5 Punctuality for games and events, with proper attire and attitude.
2.6 A focus on team spirit, improvement, and a love for the game.
Coaches have a profound influence on athletes. They are expected to:
3.1 Lead by example in sportsmanship, respect, and integrity.
3.2 Prioritize athlete safety, development, and enjoyment over winning.
3.3 Communicate clearly, positively, and constructively with players and parents.
3.4 Avoid any form of discrimination or abuse.
3.5 Respect all officials and accept decisions without argument.
3.6 Maintain appropriate boundaries with players and staff.
Officials ensure the game is played fairly. They are expected to:
4.1 Officiate games with consistency, impartiality, and fairness.
4.2 Know and apply the rules of the game accurately.
4.3 Maintain composure and professionalism, even under pressure.
4.4 Show respect to all players, coaches, and spectators.
4.5 Report any serious misconduct or safety concerns to the league.
4.6 Provide a report for all ejections or disqualifications of players and coaches immediately after a match.
Administrators are stewards of the league’s integrity and operations. They must:
5.1 Uphold league policies and ensure fair application of rules.
5.2 Foster an inclusive, transparent, and accountable environment.
5.3 Support volunteers, players, and staff in fulfilling their roles effectively.
5.4 Handle disputes, complaints, and discipline fairly and confidentially.
5.5 Promote opportunities for player development and community engagement.
5.6 Act in the best interest of the league at all times.
No acts of violence will be condoned by the (SJEBL). The (SJEBL) sees violence in an extremely negative light and will take severe action against any individual who commits such acts.
During a game:
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:
6.1 Warnings or official reprimands
6.2 Suspension from games or league activities
6.3 Permanent expulsion from the league
6.4 Referral to appropriate authorities in extreme cases
